Dr. A.S. Luis Andres Lopez Fernandez is currently a researcher at Gregorio Maranon Hospital. He is responsible for the Laboratory of Pharmacogenetics included in the Department of Pharmacy. He studied Biology at Alcala University and became a licensed biologist in 1990. In 1994 he obtained a PhD in Genetics at Alcala University for his work on the molecular biology of gametogenesis in Centro de Ciencias Biológica (Madrid, Spain). Then, he moved to the Institut National de la Santé et de la Researche Médicale ( 1996 - 1998, Unité 470, Nice, France); Center for Biological Research (1998-2000, Madrid, Spain), National Center for Biotechnology (2000-2006) and finally Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (2006- present).

Luis's research focuses on pharmacogenetics biomarkers discovery and clinical implementation. He leads different research lines in the pharmacogenetics of fluoropyrimidines, anti-TNF drugs (infliximab and adalimumab), opioids, and multiple sclerosis drugs.
