Luigi Angrisani

Prof. Luigi Angrisani is a specialist in Laparoscopic Surgery of the Digestive System. He is currently Professor and Researcher in General Surgery (Med 18) of the Department of Public Health at the University of Naples "Federico II" wherein 1996 he introduced Laparoscopic Surgery for the Treatment of Obesity. For twenty years (2000-2019) he was Primary Surgeon of the Hospital "S.Giovanni Bosco" ASL Napoli 1 center, UOC Director of General, Emergency and Laparoscopic Surgery.

He has performed over 4000 abdominal surgery mainly on the stomach, on the esophagus-gastric junction and on the gallbladder and biliary tract, both in election and in urgency. In 2018 he won the Ettore Ruggieri Award issued by the Italian Society of Surgery for twenty years of clinical research and scientific publications on gastroesophageal reflux and obesity. Due to his long clinical experience he is often involved in complex laparoscopic re-operations on the gastric esophagus junction for failures and or complications of previous bariatric operations. He routinely performs laparoscopic interventions for hiatal hernia and esophagus-gastric neoplasms even with partial or total removal of the stomach.

Prof. Angrisani is Associate Editor of the most prestigious International Scientific Journal in the bariatric sector Obesity Surgery and is Chairman of the Board of Guarantors of the World Federation of Obesity Surgery. In 2008-2010 he was President of the Italian Society of Obesity Surgery and in 2013-2014 he was President of the World Federation of Obesity Surgery.
