Lucia Migliore PhD

Lucia Migliore is a full Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of Pisa, Dept of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery. Since 2008 she is also been responsible for a programme (contract) on "Genetic and epigenetic biomarkers in complex diseases" for the University Hospital of Pisa. She has extensive experience in: genetic toxicology studies in vivo and in vitro; biomonitoring of human populations exposed to environmental agents; genetic susceptibility, and epigenetic and environmental factors involved in complex diseases (neurodegenerative diseases, colorectal cancer).

After her degree in Biological Sciences (University of Pisa, 1978), in 1984, 1991 and 1999 she paid visits at the Institute of Histology and Anatomy, University of Modena (Italy) at the Dept. of Radiation Genetics and Chemical Mutagenesis, State University of Leiden, Leiden (NL) and at the School of Applied Sciences, The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen (UK). She was the Director of the School of Applied Genetics (University of Pisa, 2000-2006). Evaluator for the European Commission Research Directorate and national and international funding agencies. Member of the Carcinogenicity taskforce (European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods, ECVAM, Ispra, VA), of the Executive of the Italian Society of Genetics and Secretary−Treasurer of the Italian Society of Environmental Mutagenesis (SIMA), of the executive of the Italian Federation of Life Sciences.

At present, she is the coordinator of a Permanent Working Group of the European Cytogeneticists Society, of the WG on Epigenetics of the Italian Society of Human Genetics, and of the panel (GEV06) for the VQR (Assessment of the quality of research) of ANVUR (National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research). Referee for international Journals. Invited speaker at many national and international meetings. Supervisor of 24 Ph.D., post-doc, or resident trainees.

She has active collaborations with several national and international research groups and was responsible for many national and European projects funded by the National Research Council, Italian Ministry of Education, Italian Ministry of Work, Italian Ministry of Defence, British Council/CRUI, Osato (Japan), Istituto Toscano Tumori, European Union (2 FP7 Projects: NanoReTox and Sanowork). Prof. Migliore has published >140 peer-reviewed scientific articles in genetic toxicology, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, neurodegeneration, and epigenetics, in addition to 12 book chapters and>200 abstracts and national and international meetings proceedings.
