Dr. Louis Wing-Cheong Chow is Medical Director of UNIMED Medical Institute in Hong Kong, Executive Director of the Organisation for Oncology and Translational Research in Hong Kong, Distinguished Professor of Macau Science Technology, Honorary Professor of Third Military Medical University, Honorary Professor of Ningxia Medical College School of Clinical Medicine in Ningxia, China, Honorary Professor at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, Visiting Professor, Wuhan University of Science and Technology and Honorary Consultant of Kiang Wu Hospital in Macau. Professor Chow was the immediate past Honorary Clinical Professor of Clinical Trials Centre at The University of Hong Kong, past President of the Asian Breast Cancer Society, and former Honorary Secretary, of The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

Professor Chow received his medical education at The University of Hong Kong and completed his residency at the Queen Mary and Kwong Wah Hospitals in Hong Kong. He then underwent sabbatical training at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After training in surgical oncology, Professor Chow returned to The University of Hong Kong and held competitive positions of Assistant and Associate Professors at the Department of Surgery of the University. During his professorship, he gave lectures to medical and nursing students, and staff on breast cancer surgical and medical treatments, and directed the Radioguided Surgery Courses for Breast Cancer and a Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsy Course at the University. Apart from his clinical and teaching duties at the university, he also served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Deputy Director of the Centre of Education and Training at the Department of Surgery, and examiner for postgraduate examinations, as well as supervisor of doctorate and master degree students. As Associate Dean, Professor Chow played a pivotal role in the adoption of the problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum into the School of Medicine, which encourages analytical and critical thinking for complex subjects. This instrumental step was at the forefront of the development of PBL throughout all faculties of the University.

Professor Chow is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong, and a Fellow of the American Cancer Society. He is also an expert in cancer research and has obtained a patent on a mouse cell line derived from human malignant osteosarcoma phyllodes. In the past few years, he has obtained various research and professional grants for cancer research purposes at the University and contributed as Principal Investigator/Co-investigator of several international clinical trials. Professor Chow has published over 170 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His key research interests are breast cancer molecular therapy, chemoresistance, chemoprevention, and translational research in breast cancer.

At the 6th National Breast Cancer Forum held in Chongqing in December 2012, Professor Chow was awarded the prestigious research prize the Kim Hyun-Jib Breast Cancer Research Memorial Award. This is the highest honor in the field of breast cancer research in China. Professor Chow is the only recipient in Hong Kong and Macau to have been bestowed with this honor.
