Dr. Lopa Misra is a distinguished anesthesiologist at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, where she serves as a consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. With extensive expertise in regional anesthesia, peripheral nerve blocks, and acute perioperative pain management, she is dedicated to enhancing patient comfort, improving surgical outcomes, and advancing evidence-based pain management strategies.
Dr. Misra earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Arizona State University and subsequently completed post-baccalaureate studies in Molecular Biology before receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Western University of Health Sciences. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center and Anesthesiology at the University of Arizona Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Perioperative Pain Management at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She is board-certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Throughout her career, Dr. Misra has focused on advancing regional anesthesia techniques and multimodal pain management approaches that reduce opioid requirements and improve postoperative recovery. Her clinical and scholarly work has contributed to the understanding of perioperative analgesia, chronic postsurgical pain, orthopedic anesthesia, and patient-centered pain management. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications addressing topics such as peripheral nerve blocks, multimodal analgesia, chronic pain, women's health in medicine, and perioperative care innovations.
A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Misra has played a prominent role in medical education at Mayo Clinic. She has served as Medical Student Clerkship Director, faculty advisor, admissions committee member, and mentor for multiple educational and diversity initiatives. Her dedication to teaching has been recognized through honors including a Perfect Score on Overall Teaching Effectiveness and nominations for Teaching Excellence awards from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine.
Dr. Misra is also a recognized leader in professional service and physician advocacy. She serves as Director of Orthopedic and Regional Anesthesia and has held leadership roles in departmental clinical practice, education, diversity, and physician well-being initiatives.
