Dr. Lois Elaine Krahn, MD, retired in July 2025 and transitioned to Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic Alix College of Medicine. She held a joint appointment in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology. For over the past 30 years, her clinical and research interests have been in the area of sleep medicine with a special focus on narcolepsy. Recently, her research has examined the novel therapeutic agents for excessive daytime sleepiness, the role of wearable monitoring devices, and the sleep environment.

She has held several leadership positions, including Medical Director for Compliance and Risk Management. Additionally, she was a member of both the Mayo Clinic Board of Governors and Board of Trustees. She attended Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and completed her residency at Georgetown University Hospital with a subsequent fellowship at Mayo Clinic. She has received numerous awards for excellence in medical education. Dr Krahn served as the Director of Mayo Clinic's Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery, focusing her education efforts more recently on this emerging discipline. Since 2014, she has been a physician board member on the Arizona Medical Board.
