Liz Margolies, LCSW is the founder and Executive Director of the National LGBT Cancer Network, the only US program that focuses exclusively on the needs of LGBT people with cancer and those at risk. Based in NYC, the Network focuses on education, training, advocacy, and support. In collaboration with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Network coordinated the first national convening of LGBT cancer experts in 2014, producing a White Paper that was highlighted in the journal, LGBT Health. The following year, the Network co-sponsored (with LGBT HealthLink) a national committee that created and published a companion piece, LGBT Best and Promising Practices Throughout the Cancer Continuum.

Margolies is a co-author of multiple other peer-reviewed articles, several based on the Network’s original research on LGBT cancer survivors. The Network educates the LGBT community about their increased cancer risks and the importance of screening and early detection through Facebook, Twitter (over 12,000 followers), and the creation of the Queer Wellness page of Huffington Post, where Margolies is a regular blogger. As a result of her cancer work for this underserved community, Margolies was invited to the White House in 2012 and, on two separate occasions to meet the Vice President of the US. In 2014 Margolies was chosen as one of the OUT100 for her work in the LGBT community.
