Dr. Lehmann is the Director of the Center for Bioethics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), associate physician in the Jen Center for Primary Care at BWH, and Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School. She joined the faculty of the Division of General Internal Medicine in 1999 after completing her fellowship training in general internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Lehmann is a graduate of Cornell University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University. She received a M.Sc. in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harva
rd School of Public Health in 1999.
Her research is focused on empirical and philosophical analysis of contemporary ethical issues in medicine. She is interested in the moral determinants of medical decision-making and has focused on ethical issues in genetics, truth telling in medicine, religion and medicine, and research ethics. In addition to practicing internal medicine she is an active member of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Ethics Consultation Service, Ethics Committee, and the Partners Institutional Review Board.
