Dr. Lisa Rooper earned her MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency and the Advanced Specialty Training Program in Surgical Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she also received subspecialty training in Head and Neck Pathology. She joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 2017, where she currently serves as Director of Surgical Pathology Operations and Director of the Head and Neck Pathology Service and is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Oncology.

Dr. Rooper's research centers on the classification and pathogenesis of head and neck neoplasms, with a particular interest in the salivary gland, sinonasal, and neuroendocrine tumors. She has published more than 125 peer-reviewed articles, serves on the editorial board of 6 journals including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology and Modern Pathology, and authored multiple chapters in the 5th Edition World Health Organization (WHO) Classifications of Head and Neck Tumours and Endocrine Tumours. 

Dr. Rooper currently serves as Secretary of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists (APSS) and is an active member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology (NASHNP). She lectures nationally and internationally on a broad range of head and neck topics and has won several resident teaching awards.
