Lisa received her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She has been with the service since 1993 and currently is an associate member. She is also the Associate Dean for Practice and Professional Graduate Programs in the School of Nursing where she teaches in the midwifery education program. She is also on faculty and teaches in the Women’s Studies Department. Her research focuses on reducing primary cesarean rates and support and care during second-stage labor and she is active nationally with the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Dr. Kane Low’s research interests and publications focus on women's and adolescents' experiences of childbirth, including specific birth care practices, the role of doulas, management of second stage labor, as well as cultural understandings of the significance of the birth experience.
