Lisa Edelmann, Ph.D., is a nationally recognized expert in population-based carrier screening, high-throughput clinical diagnostic sequencing, as well as genomic disorders, and clinical interpretation of copy number variation. As Chief Diagnostics Officer at Sema4 and co-founder of the company, she is responsible for oversight of clinical operations as they relate to the CLIA laboratories, including clinical reporting, quality assurance, and genetic counseling. She oversees test innovation and development.
Lisa also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Prior to Sema4, Lisa was the Executive Director of the Mount Sinai Genetic Testing Laboratory. Her scientific accomplishments include elucidating the mechanism of chromosome 22q11 rearrangements and involvement in the first molecular sequencing of an entire human chromosome. She has also published extensively on Ashkenazi Jewish genetic disorders and has developed several novel tests, including a test for the detection of silent carriers for spinal muscular atrophy, which is licensed nationwide and abroad. Lisa received her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
