Lisa F. Berkman PhD

Dr. Berkman is being recognized because of her research in epidemiology and inequities in health care delivery due to social and race inequities. During her 16 years on the Yale faculty, Dr. Berkman headed the Division of Chronic Disease Epidemiology and the Division of Health Policy at the School of Public Health. Now at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, she is an internationally recognized social epidemiologist who studies social and policy influences on health outcomes. She seeks to understand inequalities related to socioeconomic status, different ethnic and racial groups, social networks, support, and isolation. At Harvard, she is the director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, the director of the Ph.D. Program in Population Health Sciences, and the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy, Epidemiology, and Global Health and Population.
