Lisa A. Benz Scott BA, MS, PhD

Dr. Lisa Benz Scott earned a B.A. in Psychology from Stony Brook University, an M.S. in Health Promotion from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in the Department of Health Policy and Management's Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She was a National Research Service Award pre-doctoral trainee recipient (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, Principal Investigator Dr. David Levine, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine). After completing her Ph.D. in 2000, Dr. Benz Scott continued post-doctoral studies at Johns Hopkins as a two-year fellow funded by the nationally competitive W.K. Kellogg Community Health Scholars Program.
Dr. Benz Scott joined Stony Brook University’s Department of Health Care Policy and Management (HCPM) in 2002, and was tenured as Associate Professor in 2007. She teaches a core course (Research Design and Methods) that is required of all MS students in HCPM and advises and mentors students on practice-based research, practicum, and internship projects. She has supervised more than 40 master’s-level research and practice-based projects in collaboration with content experts on topics focused on emerging problems in community health and health care. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Benz Scott is Chair of the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure Committee of the School; she serves on several academic, community-based, and professional committees to advance health research, education, and practice.
