Dr. Gillam is the chair of cardiovascular medicine for Atlantic Health System. She previously served as medical director of the Cardiac Valve Program and professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University. She is an expert in echocardiography, valvular heart disease and heart disease in women. She has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and 14 book chapters and is co-editor (with Catherine Otto, MD) of Advanced Echocardiographic Techniques. She has lectured nationally and internationally on these and related topics. She is a graduate of McGill University and Queen’s University, Canada, and Columbia University, NY. She completed her cardiology fellowship training at the University of Toronto and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Gillam is past president of the American Society of Echocardiography and a former member of both the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology. She is a former chair of the Women in Cardiology Committee of the American Heart Association and served on the leadership committee of the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology. She is a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the National Board of Echocardiography. She is an associate editor for Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging and a member of the editorial boards of Circulation and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
