Liaw Sok Ying is the first tenured Singaporean nurse associate professor at the National University of Singapore. She joined the university in 2006 as a pioneer lecturer where she helped to lay the foundation for the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (ALCNS), and where she began to establish the use of simulation for undergraduate nursing education. In navigating better ways to deliver simulation, she enters into the use of virtual reality, artificial intelligent and serious games.

A/Prof Liaw has led the development and evaluation of simulation-based educational programs including e-RAPIDS (Rescuing A Patient In Deterioration Situation) and CREATIVE (Create Real-time And Teamwork In Virtual Environment) which were translated into curriculums and licensed to overseas institutions. She was also involved in the development of several psychometric measurement tools related to clinical deterioration, and one (known as V-scale) was widely used across the world with translation into multiple languages.
