Dr. Hsiao received her PhD from Department of Pathology and Cell Biology, Thomas Jefferson University in 1989 and her MD from Jefferson Medical College in 1995. She completed Internal Medicine training at Allegheny University Hospital in Philadelphia and was Chief Resident in Medicine supervising and managing a program with 150 residents. In 1999 Dr. Hsiao entered the MGH-BWH Nephrology training program at Harvard Medical School. She is currently an Assistant professor and an Associate Physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
During her tenure at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Hsiao has written over 30 manuscripts, review articles and chapters. One of the articles has been selected as "The 50 most frequently-cited articles in Physiologic Genomics" as year of 2006. Her research areas of interest include mechanisms of vascular calcification in premature aging, particularly on Klotho and HSP72 and their roles in vascular disease. Her group was the first to describe endogenous Klotho expression in vasculature and received the “Best Abstract Award 2011” granted jointly by the British Renal Association (BRA) and British Renal Society (BRS) for the work in the area of endogenous vascular Klotho and its role in mediating resistance to FGF-23. This work was published in journal of Circulation May 2012.
