Ley Sander MD, PhD

Ley Sander is a Professor of Neurology at UCL Institute of Neurology and Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Lead for Epilepsy at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. He heads the World Health Organisation Collaborative Centre for Research and Training in Neurosciences. He is the Medical Director of the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy and the Scientific Director of SEIN, the Epilepsy Institute of the Netherlands Foundation. Sander’s main research interests are in the epidemiology and genetics of epilepsy, the management of chronic epilepsy particularly with new antiepileptic drugs and the delivery of epilepsy care in resource-poor settings. He has more than 600 publications to his name, including original research articles, reviews, books and book chapters. Sander is a member of the editorial board of the Lancet Neurology and is a neurological advisor to the British National Formulary. Sander has obtained many postgraduate awards and prizes including the Research Recognition Award for Clinical Sciences of the American Epilepsy Society, the Innovation and Sustainability in Health Award, the BUPA Foundation Epidemiology Award, the European Gower’s Prize, the Linda Bateman Award for the Alleviation of Epilepsy and the Ambassador for Epilepsy Award.
