Dr. Raij is Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Director of the Hypertension Renal Division at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Director of Hypertension and Nephrology at the UM International Medicine Institute, and Vice-Chair of the Vascular Biology Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine. In June 2008 Dr. Raij became the Vice-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee at the University of Miami Medical School. He is also Chief of the Nephrology-Hypertension Section of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami and Attending Physician and Director of Hypertension at Jackson Memorial Hospital, UM Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Raij received his medical degree from Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) in Argentina and completed his internship and residency at University Hospital, UNL. Before coming to the University of Miami, he was Attending Physician and Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School, as well as the Chief of the Nephrology/Hypertension Section of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Raij has made major contributions to the fields of hypertension, cardiovascular and renal disease, and he is a role model for exceptional research, education, and service at the University of Miami Medical Miller School of Medicine.
