Dr. Leanne Ward received her medical degree in 1993 from McMaster University and completed her pediatrics residency at Dalhousie University. She received her Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in pediatric endocrinology and metabolism following a clinical fellowship at St. Justine Hospital and the University of Montreal. She completed a pediatric metabolic bone disease research fellowship at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Montreal and McGill University. Dr. Ward is the medical director at the pediatric bone health clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). She is also a senior scientist at the CHEO Research Institute and holds a Research Chair in Pediatric Bone Health at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Ward is the principal investigator of the STeroid-induced Osteoporosis in the Pediatric Population (STOPP) research program, a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) project evaluating the effect of glucocorticoids on bone health in children with leukemia, rheumatic conditions and nephrotic syndrome.
