Dr. Shulman received his MD from Harvard Medical School in 1975 and trained in hematology-oncology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He served as clinical director of hematology-oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which joined its adult oncology program with that of Dana-Farber in 1996. An expert in the implementation of cancer treatment programs in low-resource settings, he is Director of the Center for Global Cancer Medicine, Senior Oncology Advisor to Partners In Health (PIH), and has led the establishment of national cancer treatment programs in Rwanda and Haiti, with PIH. He works closely with the Union for International Cancer Control to expand worldwide access to cancer medicines.
