Dr. Laurence de Leval is a Full Professor at UNIL and Head of the Institute of Pathology at CHUV since 2009. She received her medical degree from the University of Liege, Belgium, where she trained in Pathology and obtained a doctorate in Experimental Pathology. After a two-year postdoctoral internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard Medical School, in Boston, she worked as a pathologist and researcher at the University Hospital of Liège with the support of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research.
The teacher. de Leval is an internationally recognized expert in hematopathology. In 2008, she received the Benjamin Castleman Prize from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) for her discovery of the origin of angioimmunoblastic T lymphoma, derived from follicular helper T lymphocytes. His research on non-Hodgkin lymphomas was awarded the InBev-Baillet Latour Prize for Clinical Research in 2009.
His current work focuses on exploring the molecular pathogenesis of T- and NK cell-derived neoplasia, as well as the identification and validation of diagnostic biomarkers in lymphomas. She is the author of more than 300 scientific publications as well as numerous chapters in reference textbooks in pathology and hematology.
Laurence de Leval is a member of several national and international scientific societies; she is also an expert pathologist and co-chair of the working group on T-cell lymphomas of the European Cooperation Group LYSA (LYmphoma Study Association). Finally, Prof. de Leval is an elected member of the International Lymphoma Study Group and a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium.
