Laura J. V. Piddock PhD

Laura Piddock joined GARDP as Head of Scientific Affairs in January 2018 on a secondment basis alongside her research activities at the University of Birmingham, the UK where she is a Professor of Microbiology and continues to lead her research team. Her current research focuses on multi-drug efflux.

Laura has been an Expert Advisor on several reviews including Lord O’Neill’s Review on AMR and the World Health Organization on drug-resistant foodborne pathogens. She collaborates widely with researchers throughout the world, has published over 200 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, and given over 200 presentations at international conferences.

Laura is currently Chair of the EU Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance Scientific Advisory Committee. She is a Fellow of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and of the American Academy of Microbiology and was a member of the Longitude Prize Expert Advisory Panel and numerous grant funding committees/panels including UK MRC Infections and Immunity Board and Royal Society Wolfson Award Committee.
