Dr. Laura Lucia Hayman is a university administrator, active researcher and educator, and student and faculty mentor. She earned her PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Development at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) where she served on faculty in the School of Nursing and in numerous School and University level leadership positions for two decades. Prior to joining the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2007 as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Hayman held tenured faculty positions at Penn, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and New York University. Currently, she is Associate Vice-Provost for Research and Graduate Studies and Professor of Nursing at UMass Boston.
She also holds an Adjunct Professorship in the School of Medicine, Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine at UMass Medical School. Her program of research and scholarship was initiated at Penn with an NIH/NINR funded multidisciplinary, longitudinal observational study of biobehavioral risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in twin children and their parents. Currently funded clinical and community-based research, builds on and extends her early multidisciplinary work and emphasizes a life course approach to both prevention and management of obesity and risk for cardiometabolic conditions in children, adolescents and adults from diverse populations.
