Dr. Coates is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Rheumatology at the University of Leeds. Immediately after attaining her training post in rheumatology in 2006, she started as a research fellow at Chapel Allerton Hospital focusing on the spondyloarthropathies. In 2008, she was awarded an Arthritis Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship to complete her PhD titled “Improving the outcome of psoriatic arthritis”. She was awarded her PhD with commendation for research excellence from the University of Leeds in 2011. After a period of clinical training, she was awarded her current NIHR Clinical Lecturer post in rheumatology starting in March 2012. In 2012, she was elected to the Steering Committee of the international Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). She is a member of the Psoriatic Arthritis and MRI in inflammatory arthritis OMERACT groups and has represented these groups as an OMERACT fellow on two occasions. She is also a member of the Psoriatic Arthritis Genetics European (PAGE) Consortium.
