Professor Lars Arendt-Nielsen, dr. med. sci., Ph.D., is the founder of the International Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction and the Translational Pain Biomarker Group, School of Medicine, Aalborg University, Denmark. The experimental and clinical research focus is on 1) biomarkers 2) mechanistic diagnostic profiling, 3) translational pain research, 4) experimental methods for the assessment of pain/itch/inflammation from the skin, muscles, and viscera in healthy volunteers and pain patients, and 5) development of human biomarkers for screening of new analgesic compounds in humans (volunteers and patients), 6) proof-of-concept studies on new analgesic, anti-pruritic, and anti-inflammatory compounds.

Dr. Arendt-Nielsen is co-founder and director of R&D for C4Pain which is a highly advanced, research-based proof-of-concept clinical trial unit providing test facilities for screening analgesic, anti-pruritic and anti-inflammatory compounds in early and late drug development. Dr. Arendt-Nielsen has delivered over 400 keynote lectures at international meetings and seminars and published more than 1000 papers on experimental, clinical, and pharmaceutical sciences in international peer-reviewed journals.

Council member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) (-2012), co-president of the IASP Global Year Against Musculoskeletal Pain (2010), head of the IASP grant committee (-2012), member IASP publication committee, president IASP 2018-2020. Been serving as a board member for numerous organizations and companies and have been a consultant for more than 60 international pharmaceutical and MedTech companies.
