Professor Lara K. Mahal is an Associate Professor Chemistry at New York University. Her laboratory merges chemistry and biology to understand glycosylation using systems-based approaches. These include the creation and utilization of array technologies, cellular sensors, and probes for glycosylation. We focus on four major areas of interest 1. Mapping glycan regulatory networks, including microRNA/glycan networks, 2. Studying the role of glycans and their regulators in cancer metastasis. 3. Understanding the relationship between the glycome and the microbiome (bacteria and viruses) and 4. Further developing lectin microarrays and other technologies for analyzing and modulating glycosylation. Professor Mahal holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.A. from University of California Santa Cruz. She was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Sloan-Kettering Institute.
