Ms. PD Dr. Lamprini (Nelly) Karygianni is a native Greek who completed her high school diploma (2000) in Athens. Ms. Karygianni also studied dentistry in Athens and completed her dental studies there in 2006. In spring 2007, Ms. Karygianni began working as a research assistant at the Clinic for Dental Conservation and Periodontology at the University Hospital of Freiburg. Her doctorate (2012) with the title “Effect of heat-inactivated Enterococcus faecalis of endodontic origin on the proliferation and differentiation of bovine osteoblast-like cells” and her habilitation (2016) on the topic “New approaches to the visualization and eradication of adherent microorganisms in the Oral cavity" were carried out in the Clinic for Dental Conservation and Periodontology at the University of Freiburg. Since May 2017, Ms. Karygianni has been working as a senior assistant and since September 2019 as a senior physician in the Clinic for Preservation and Preventive Dentistry (ZPZ) at the Center for Dentistry at the University of Zurich.

Ms. PD Dr. Karygianni has focused her scientific work primarily on the field of oral microbiology and has published numerous original papers in high-ranking international journals. In addition, Ms. PD Karygianni has received various awards for her scientific work, most recently the high-ranking Walkhoff Prize from the German Society for Dental Conservation for the best publication as a co-author in an international journal in 2018.
