Lakis science training and national military service, Lakis Liloglou arrived at the University of Liverpool in 1994 as a postdoctoral research associate, working on genetic profiling of lung and head and neck tumours. In 1998 he became a Genomic Instability Group Leader in the Liverpool Lung Project, focusing on advancing the knowledge on cancer-specific genetic abnormalities into a potential strategy for early detection of lung cancer. Soon the focus shifted to the new at that point field of cancer epigenetics.

Lakis was the first in the UK to develop Pyrosequencing- based DNA methylation detection assays. He became a Lecturer in 2010 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013 in the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine, University of Liverpool. Lakis leads the Biomarkers Group in the Liverpool NWCR Centre research, focusing in the discovery and validation of biomarkers for clinical management of respiratory cancer. he can also be reached at T.Liloglou@liverpool.ac.uk
