Laia Alemany PhD

Laia Alemany is a public health physician and epidemiologist from Barcelona, Spain. She is a medical graduate from the University of Barcelona, and has a Master in Public Health from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. She completed her speciality training in preventive medicine and public health through the Hospital Vall d’Hebron Training Programme.

Within UNIC, she is ICO's co-responsible for the HPV group. She is involved in several projects which aim to describe the role of HPV in HPV-related cancers (i.e. cervix, vulva, vagina, penile, anal mucosae and head and neck cancers). These studies are ongoing and collect a large series of paraffin-embedded tissue blocks which will be used for further sub-studies. In addition to her work at ICO, she is currently pursuing a PhD on HPV detection in HPV-related cancers.
