Dr. Kurosh Parsi, MSc, MBBS, MScMed, Ph.D., FACD, FACP is a Head of the Department of Dermatology at the St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. He served as Staff Specialist in Dermatology and Vascular Anomalies, at Sydney Children’s Hospital for 10 years. Professor Kurosh Parsi specializes in endovenous interventions, vascular malformations, diagnosis and management of vascular skin problems, and in particular reticulate eruptions.
Prof. Parsi is a medical graduate of the University of Sydney. He obtained his Master of Science in Medicine in thrombosis and thrombophilias followed by a Ph.D. in thrombosis, hemostasis, and fibrinolysis from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Professor Parsi’s basic science research has focused on the physiochemical properties of sclerosant foams and the interaction of detergent sclerosants with coagulation, antithrombotic and fibrinolytic mechanisms. His clinical research in phlebology has focused on deep vein sclerosis, sclerothrombus, and traveler’s thrombosis. His research in dermatology has been on pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPD), vascular malformations, and reticulate eruptions.
Professor Parsi has served the Australasian College of Phlebology as President since 2005. He is a member of the executive committee of the International Union of Phlebology (UIP) and positions held have included UIP Vice President (2009-2013) and UIP Treasurer (2013-2017), President-elect (2018-2019) and UIP President (2019-present). Prof. Parsi convened the UIP World Congress in February 2018 in Australia, Melbourne.
