Dr. Kunal Gupta is a functional neurosurgeon, specializing in the open and minimally invasive treatment of movement disorders and epilepsy. He graduated with distinction from the University of Cambridge, England, an internationally renowned and world-leading institution. He then completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, investigating the molecular mechanisms of acute brain injury and neuroprotection. Dr. Gupta trained in clinical neurosurgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland Oregon, where he developed his passion for stereotactic and functional neurosurgery.
Dr. Gupta then completed a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Emory University Hospital, focusing on deep brain stimulation (DBS) for movement disorders, stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), and minimally-invasive laser therapy (LITT) for epilepsy, facial pain, and peripheral nerve disorders. Alongside his clinical work, he actively pursues his research interests, investigating new methods to treat epilepsy and advancing novel surgical techniques. Dr. Gupta’s research work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Epilepsia, PNAS, Journal of Neurosurgery, Neuroscience Letters, and Cell Death and Differentiation.
