Dr. Kristoffer Weisskirchner Barfod is a Danish orthopedic surgeon. He completed his medical studies at Copenhagen University and continued his Orthopaedic training at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre before doing fellowships in sports surgery at Zealand University Hospital and knee surgery with Professor Julian Feller at OrthoSport Victoria, Australia. Due to a former career as an active sportsman and the experience of a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in both knees he was focused to become a sports surgeon from the start of his surgical training. He is currently working as a Junior consultant and Resident of Orthopedic Surgery at Hvidovre Hospital.
Parallel to his training, he completed a PhD study entitled Achilles tendon rupture; Assessment of non-operative treatment for which he was awarded the price Best PhD of the Year 2014 by the Danish Orthopedic Society.
In 2014 he finished his surgical training and in 2015 he passed the exam as a Certified Sports physician. He is an active researcher leading ongoing projects concerning shoulder, knee, and Achilles tendon injuries. He is a reviewer for most of the major sports orthopedics journals and is an associate editor for OJSM. He is a member of the Achilles Tendon Study Group under ESSKA.
