Kristjan S. Asgeirsson MS, FRCS

Kristjan Asgeirsson has worked as a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon since 2007. Within the NHS, he works at the Nottingham Breast Institute, but in addition to this, he regularly provides a specialist breast surgical service to the people of Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

His main area of expertise is to offer oncoplastic breast surgery to breast cancer patients. This type of surgery entails removing cancer from the breast, but at the same time optimizing the cosmetic outcome, whether that entails partial breast reconstruction in conjunction with a lumpectomy or immediate breast reconstruction for women needing a mastectomy.

He has a particular interest in counseling and offering risk-reducing surgery to women that have a genetic predisposition to getting breast cancer, ie those with BRCA gene mutations. He has organized international meetings, specifically focusing on risk-reducing strategies for these high-risk women.
