Dr. Guleserian is employed by Pediatric Specialists of America (PSA), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is a congenital heart surgeon at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. After graduating from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Guleserian earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in Massachusetts. She completed her general surgery residency at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University Alpert Medical School in Providence and her thoracic surgery residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
A fellowship in congenital heart surgery was conducted at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where she also completed fellowships in cardiovascular tissue engineering and cardiac pathology. Her clinical interests include cardiac morphology and pathology, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complex aortic arch reconstruction, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support of the failing heart.
Board certified in general surgery, thoracic surgery and congenital heart surgery, Dr. Guleserian operates on neonates, infants and children, as well as adolescents and adults with congenital heart defects. Her achievements include performing the world’s youngest combined heart-liver transplant in a three- year-old in 2006, world’s smallest and youngest heart transplant in a one-week-old, five-pound baby in 2007, world’s smallest and youngest pacemaker placement in a 32-week premature neonate weighing less than four pounds in 2008, and world’s smallest and youngest total artificial heart implantation in a nine-year-old in 2013.
She has established a global presence as a founding member of the World Society of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, and her work with the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, International Society for Nomenclature of Paediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and as an executive board member of Women in Thoracic Surgery.
