Kirsten Bomblies is an evolutionary geneticist, currently interested in the evolution of meiosis, as well as the evolution of gene networks. She received a PhD in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she worked with John Doebley on the domestication of maize. She worked with Detlef Weigel as a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tuebingen, Germany, studying hybrid incompatibility in Arabidopsis thaliana. She started her own group at Harvard University in 2009 and moved to the John Innes Centre in Norwich, UK in summer 2015. She received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2008.
