As a Lead Scientist for the USDA, Dr. Anderson has composed a five year plan to explore the microbial ecology of the honey bee and the hive, with a focus on landscape dynamics and migratory beekeeping. This approach involves the generation of a biotic and bioinformatic database of microbial symbionts that influence honey bee nutrition, immunity and general health. An ecologist in the broadest sense, Dr. Anderson integrates the disciplines of physiology, evolution, genetics and behavior to investigate honey bee social systems across levels of complexity.
