Kiran Shekar is an Intensive Care Specialist and Deputy Director of the Critical Care Research Group at the Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He holds appointments as an Associate Professor with the Bond University, Gold Coast and a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland, Brisbane. The multidisciplinary Critical Care Research Group conducts translational research into clinical, preclinical and engineering aspects of intensive care including sepsis, lung injury, trauma, blood transfusion, cardiac surgery, mechanical cardiorespiratory support, ex vivo organ perfusion and thoracic organ transplantation.

His key research areas include the pathophysiology of extracorporeal life support and mechanistic investigation into the tissue effects of resuscitation with various fluids and blood products in large animal models of trauma and sepsis. Shekar is the Chief Investigator of an international, multi-center study (ASAP ECMO) that aims to develop dosing guidelines for antibiotic and sedative drugs during extracorporeal life support.
