Kin-Hoe Chow, Ph.D., is the Associate Director of the Center for Patient-Derived Models (CPDM) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). In this role, he has led strategic planning and collaboration with researchers and industry partners to advance model science and leverage patient model diversity for improved clinical trials predictions. Through collaboration with major disease groups in various Cancer Centers, he helped advance specific methodologies for patient-derived cell lines (PDCLs), patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), and acute cell sensitivity testing of freshly isolated cancer cells to drugs.
He has also made a significant contribution in establishing standardized informatics approaches for a patient: model genotyping and new SNP-based fingerprinting profiles from sequencing data. Through strategic collaboration with DFCI’s Informatics and Sequencing Cores, he has led the development of a new TWIST based sequencing panel (ModelSeq) to detect common cancer mutations for a lower cost than clinical sequencing panels while allowing comparison with clinical sequencing (Oncopanel or Rapid Heme). He has also invested in database infrastructure to create customizable patient: model databases with rich genomic and clinical annotations for easy visualization and selection of cancer models.
