Dr. Koo is an Assistant Professor of Interventional Radiology in the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington and Pediatric Interventional Radiology at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Koo earned a B.S. in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 2004 and an M.D. from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. His interests in photography and technology drew him to the field of Diagnostic Radiology while his affinity for performing procedures further drove him to the field of Interventional Radiology. He completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency and clinical Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Early in his medical training, Dr. Koo was drawn to the pediatric population and thus decided to undergo further training at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Pediatric Interventional Radiology, completing this second fellowship in 2015. After a brief stint in private practice at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland, CA, Dr. Koo decided to return to the academic environment where he joined the faculty at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2017.

Dr. Koo is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a current Diplomat in Interventional Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology. He is an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology and the Society of Pediatric Interventional Radiology.

Dr. Koo’s clinical and research interests include dialysis access and interventions in children, vascular anomalies, and solid organ transplant interventions. In his free time (with very little given his two young children), Dr. Koo enjoys being outdoors, hiking, snowboarding, and traveling. He used to enjoy going to the movies but is learning to adapt to streaming from home.
