Kevin M. Barrett, MD, MSc, is a vascular neurologist and Chair of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in stroke care, cerebrovascular disease, telestroke systems, and acute neurovascular emergencies. Dr. Barrett has played a major role in advancing innovative stroke treatment strategies and digital approaches to neurological care delivery.

Dr. Barrett earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his neurology residency training at Mayo Clinic in Florida, where he also served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Vascular Neurology and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

His clinical interests include acute stroke therapy, cerebrovascular disorders, carotid fibromuscular dysplasia, therapeutic hypothermia for ischemic brain injury, concussion testing, and telestroke medicine. Dr. Barrett has contributed extensively to research focused on improving outcomes after stroke and cardiac arrest, as well as expanding access to emergency neurological care through telemedicine technologies.

A prolific researcher and educator, Dr. Barrett has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, clinical reviews, and educational resources in vascular neurology and stroke prevention. He has also served in leadership roles for major national stroke initiatives and multicenter clinical trials, including the CREST-2 Trial and StrokeNet programs.

Throughout his career, Dr. Barrett has received multiple honors for excellence in teaching, clinical care, and research. He remains deeply involved in mentoring neurology trainees and advancing multidisciplinary approaches to stroke management and neurocritical care at Mayo Clinic and beyond.
