Dr. Kevin Fernando is a portfolio GP based near Edinburgh and co-director of IYASU Healthcare. He specialises in the management of type 2 diabetes, obesity and weight management (SCOPE certified in obesity management), all CVRM (cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic) conditions, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver disease, chronic kidney disease, men’s health (including prostate assessment, erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation), and the management of abnormal blood tests.

Dr Fernando qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2000 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians & the Academy of Medical Educators. He has additional postgraduate diplomas and certificates in diabetes and medical education, and in 2014, he was awarded a Master’s degree from the University of Glamorgan.

Outside of the clinic, Dr Fernando is active in other aspects of medical advocacy, education, governance, and research. He has been a presenter, writer, and the diabetes lead for NB Medical Medication, and served as the GP educational supervisor for the South East Scotland Deanery for nearly a decade.

He has been a clinical, editorial, content, and academic advisor for various institutions and organisations, such as Guidelines in Practice, Medscape, The Royal College of General Practitioners, and the College of Contemporary Health, and was on the advisory board for Medicine Matters. He has served as the co-editor for Diabetes Distilled, and a committee member & Scottish lead for the Primary Care Diabetes Society. In addition to his running of IYASU Healthcare, Dr Fernando is also a co-founder of CVRMUK (Cardiovascular-renal-metabolic UK), an initiative for medical professionals to access training and resources regarding the holistic nature of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic conditions.
