Dr. Norris was professor of medicine at Charles Drew University (an HBCU) from 1997-2013 and is now professor of medicine at the Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. He is active in addressing health disparities, mainly in the areas of his training as a nephrologist and certified hypertension specialist.

He has mentored over 40 URM medical students, residents, and fellows/junior faculty over the last 10 years and has published over 265 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 25 book chapters.

Dr. Norris has extensive experience in patient recruitment and retention and community-partnered research within the South Central Los Angeles community. He was one of 18 site Principal Investigators for the African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension (AASK) trial and the AASK Cohort Study. To date, AASK is the largest comparative drug intervention trial focusing on renal outcomes conducted in any population.
