Dr. Kees van Heeringen, MD PhD, is a professor of psychiatry at the University of Ghent. He is the chair of the Division of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Director of the Unit for Suicide Research at the University of Ghent. He is a fellow at the International Academy for Suicide Research and a member of advisory boards, working groups and associations related to suicide prevention and research. He has published more than 100 scientific papers and 8 books. His research covers three areas in suicidology: epidemiology (e.g. monitoring of attempted suicide, survey studies), neurobiology (e.g. neuropsychology and functional neuroimaging) and prevention (development and testing of preventive interventions)
