Professor Kazem Behbehani (OBE), is currently the Director-General of the Dasman Diabetes Institute an affiliate of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science's (KFAS) in Kuwait. During his career he assumed numerous eminent international and regional positions.

With the World Health Organization (WHO) he served as Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Governing Bodies, WHO Health Envoy, Programme Manager of Tropical Disease Research (TDR), Director of both the Division of the Control of Tropical Diseases and the Eastern Mediterranean Liaison Office and a member of the WHO Board of Appeal. In Boston he was a visiting scholar at Harvard Medical School. In Kuwait he worked as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science, Vice Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Medicine, deputy Director- General of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and a member of the Management Board of the IBM Scientific Centre.

He is the recipient of several awards and scientific recognitions, among which is the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians recognition of extraordinary lifetime contribution. The honorary degree of Master of Science (M.SC.) in Environmental health from the Cyprus International Institute in association with Harvard School of Public Health. The honorary degree of Doctor of laws from the University of Dundee. Awarded Honorary Professor, Medical Research Institute, by the Senatus Academicus of the Board of the College of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing - University of Dundee. Dr. Behbehani also received the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science's (KFAS) best Researcher in Medicine.
