Katrien Fouzia Benhalima MD, PhD

Katrien Benhalima is the Deputy Head of the Clinic of Endocrinology at UZ Leuven. Katrien Benhalima (°1978) graduated in 2003 with a master's degree in medicine from KU Leuven. After following various specializations, in 2012, as a young doctor, she had the opportunity to start a large Belgian study, with the support of the FWO, to find out how best to detect gestational diabetes in time. In her doctoral research, examined the prevalence of gestational diabetes in 2,000 pregnant women. She also developed a new detection strategy that makes it possible to detect gestational diabetes in as many women as possible in time, without unnecessarily burdening many women with an extensive fasting sugar test.
