Kathryn N. Tomasino, PhD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, within the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in the Department of Medicine. She holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She joined the faculty in 2017. Dr. Tomasino is the co-director of the Behavioral Medicine for Digestive Health program housed in the Digestive Health Center at Northwestern Medicine. She is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in behavioral medicine and psychogastroenterology. She provides consultation and psychological interventions for patients with gastrointestinal conditions and weight management support, and supports patients before and after bariatric surgery to optimize adjustment and promote sustainable lifestyle change.

Dr. Tomasino utilizes research-supported interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance- and mindfulness-based therapies (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), as well as medical hypnotherapy, to help individuals cultivate insight into the mind-body relationship and learn techniques to improve quality of life and reduce GI symptoms and pain.

Dr. Tomasino's research focuses on the development and evaluation of novel psychological and behavioral interventions for patients with digestive disease and quality improvement initiatives to better identify and provide treatment to individuals with IBD who could benefit from connection to behavioral medicine services for co-occurring depression, anxiety, and IBD-related trauma. She is also passionate about clinical training and mentorship and provides supervision to clinical psychology pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows, and is involved in training and wellness promotion for gastroenterology fellows.
