Kathrin studied Chemistry at the University of Innsbruck where she obtained a PhD in 2008, working on chemically modified RNA to study ribosome catalysis and riboswitch folding (Prof. Ronald Micura). In 2009 she moved to the MRC-LMB, Cambridge, UK, where she worked as a postdoctoral scientist on ribosome crystallography in the group of Dr Venki Ramakrishnan. She subsequently joined Jason Chin's lab to work in the interdisciplinary field of Chemical and Synthetic Biology. Here she developed approaches, that are now widely used, to site-specifically label proteins in on and on cells with diverse probes of interest. In April 2014 she was appointed a Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Professor at TUM. She now heads the Synthetic Biochemistry research group in the Chemistry Department.
