Kathleen Flarity is the Mobilization Assistant to the Director, Medical Operations & Research, and Chief of the Nurse Corps, Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Falls Church, Virginia. Her Directorate is responsible for executing health care policy in support of 44,000 personnel and 75 medical treatment facilities with a budget of $6.4 million. She provides strategic guidance translating the Air Force Surgeon General's vision into initiatives. Additionally, as MA to the Chief of the Nurse Corps, she provides guidance for 18,000 total nursing force Airmen (active duty, Reserve and Air National Guard). Colonel Flarity is a member of the Air Force Nurse Corps Board of Directors, Federal Nursing Service Council and Nursing Executive Council.
Colonel Flarity began as an Army combat medic in 1980 and received a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1988. She deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991. In 1995, Colonel Flarity transferred to the Air Force Reserve, 446th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, McChord AFB, Wash. and served in various capacities from 1995 until 2005. From 2005 to 2008 she served on Air Staff as an IMA to the Director of Air Force Nursing Services and consultant for Air Expeditionary/Readiness, HQ US Air Force, Washington, D.C. In 2008 she was selected as the first Commander of the 34th Air Evacuation Squadron at Peterson AFB, CO, and deployed as a Commander, 455th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Bagram, Afghanistan in 2011. She then served as the 302d Aeromedical Staging Squadron Commander, Peterson AFB, Colorado. Prior to her current assignment, she was the Mobilization Assistant to the Assistant Air Force Surgeon General, Medical Force Development and Assistant Air Force Surgeon General, Nursing Services. In her civilian occupation, she works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Scientist.
