Kate Madden MD, MMSc

Dr. Madden has generally focused on clinical research that seeks to identify and potentially address risk factors for more severe critical illness. Her prior focus of research was in vitamin D deficiency and the relationship of the vitamin D pathway to illness severity and organ failure, including vitamin D binding protein levels and polymorphisms.

She has also worked on quality improvement projects addressing response to presentation of severe sepsis and septic shock, as well as the assessment of severe asthma in both the MSICU and the BMC PICU. Current and future work focuses on the diagnosis of delirium in critically ill children, risk factors for that diagnosis, and potential modifications in sedation practice to decrease risk.
