Kate Irving is a Professor of Clinical Nursing in Dublin City University and the Health Service Executive. Kate’s PhD was completed in Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia, 2001: Case studies in the use of restraints. Kate’s doctoral thesis focused on the care of people with dementia in acute medical wards. For the last decade she has focused on research in the area of dementia prevention and treatment.
Funded research projects include, IN MINDD (Innovative Midlife Intervention for Dementia Deterrence), several studies looking at the application of technology to augment dementia care cognitive stimulation therapy and strengths based approaches to dementia care. Kate led the Irish National Dementia Skills Elevator programme, was chair of the North Dublin Alzheimer’s Café, and was Clinical Lead in the DCU Memory Works Clinic a service to the community to help people make sense of and respond to the memory problems they are having.
